Cast of Characters
I thought you might like to meet some of the people who live and work on this Sanbornton farm. It all started with the dream of one Man, Greg the Farmer. Also known as Bear-Kicker, Greg the Bald Bee Guy, and Sandy, he’s wanted to be a farmer for as long as I have known him. Since I’m his daughter, that’s quite a while. Â Twenty years ago he moved his family here to New Hampshire, onto a 14 acre farm in Sanbornton. The old farmhouse has seen years of dairy goats, sheep, chickens, and a big market garden. For several years all of that faded away, until a kitchen table family meeting led to a decision to try to make this back into a farm “for real”. Greg’s vision is to feed 50-100 people off the farm’s produce within 2 years. He has had a set back this spring, having a kidney removed, but he remains the brains behind the efforts we make around here, and wil be recovered fully in a few months.
Myself, I’m Cedar, Greg’s daughter. Having returned to Stonycroft with four kids in tow, I’m doing my best to help Dad realize his dreams. I also want my children to grow up like I did, learning about farming, nature, and loving family.
The four children sometimes help, often hinder, and hopefully are learning a lot. Aged, as I write this, twelve, ten and a half, nine, and almost six, they have a lot of growing to do still.

It’s great to see the pictures and comments. Juliet with the baby goat looks so much younger than the later pictures–of course, she was! I’m really glad you’re raising them to appreciate a rural lifestyle; there are so many people who never know what it’s about. And they seem to have the natural curiosity of their mother–remember the tidepooling trips to the beach, and dissecting the squid? Not exactly farming, but enjoying nature.
